About Kathy Booker

So what would you like to know about Kathy Booker?  I can give you basics and highlights – if there’s something specific you would like to know, drop me an email.

I’ve been writing since I was a little kid.  I wrote short stories back then and then poetry during high school.  Sometimes I read what I wrote back then and wonder how I made it through my teenage years (some of what I wrote was so damn depressing).  I started to learn how to play the guitar in eighth grade and not long afterward started writing songs.  Yeah, they were geeky but a couple of them landed me solo spots in the high school talent show in my junior and senior years.  My goal was to play and sing at The Ground Round in Des Plaines, IL but as I got very close to being ready for my stage debut, The Ground Round closed.  So instead I did a couple of weddings, some Moose Lodge events, and a local event for handicapped children.

Born in Chicago, Illinois and have lived in several of the Chicago suburbs.  Moved to Westminster, Maryland in 1999 because of a job transfer.  That was one of the better decisions I’ve made in my life.  I love Maryland mostly because I love mountains.  I’m told that if I ever make it out west to see the Rockies, I’ll learn what mountains really look like.

I guess it should go without saying that a passion for writing usually means a passion for reading too.  I don’t read nearly as many books as I would like but I’m working on changing that with the long trips up to Vermont to take my son back and forth during his college breaks.  Gotta love audio books!

I think the iPod is one of the greatest gifts given to man besides blogs, computers, the printing press, the Kindle, The 1980’s Chicago Bulls (Michael and Scottie were the BEST), the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs (there’s always next year, right?).

If it weren’t for my dad and the things he’s said to me and done for me over the years, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.  I owe much to him, and it feels like I’ll never be able to truly express my love for him.  As for my mom, I love her dearly too.  And I love my son more than anything.  Oh, and my dachshund is on that list too.  And of course, my boyfriend because of all the things he does for me.
